The Youth Quick Draw is a judged event with awards for first, second, and third place winners. This is a plein air painting competition for youth ages 12 to 18 years old and was held on Saturday, May 17th, 2014 starting at 10:00am and ending at 12:00 noon. The student brought their finished artwork to 24th street at Willow Park for judging and awards starting at 12:30pm. This event was open to any youth who wishes to participate. Student artists needed to supply their own drawing surface (canvas/paper), easel (if preferred but not required), and drawing medium (acrylic, oil, pencil, charcoal, etc.). No framing was required.
The geographic boundaries of the Quick Draw competition were the areas between 21st Street and 25th Street and from White Hall Alley (which runs parallel to Market Street) north to Walnut Street and including all of Willow Park.
Before the event begins, the Youth Quick Draw artist may choose a location within the designated boundaries. At 10am the artists begin to create en Plein Air! The artists must start with nothing pre-painted, predrawn or pre-sculpted, and create the Quick Draw artwork only during the Quick Draw time frame between 10:00am - 12 noon.
All artists must arrive for the exhibit and judging by 12:30pm. Each artist must set up her/his easel on 24th Street, and display his/her Quick Draw work on it. Event staff is on site to answer artists’ questions, direct artists to the exhibit space and help artists set up their easels. Each artwork must be for sale, and have a title and price. A label (supplied) must be completed and attached to the easel. There will be a 20% commission collected from the proceeds of each Quick Draw sale, which is used to fund this event.
