About Camp Hill, PA

Camp Hill signThe Borough of Camp Hill is one of Pennsylvania's finest, small and vibrant communities located here in the Cumberland Valley region. It is part of the Harrisburg/Carlisle Metropolitan statistical area and is in close proximity west of the state's capitol city of Harrisburg, which ajoins the great Susquehanna River.

Camp Hill is located between the Conodoguinet and Yellow Breeches creeks and was originally named "The Manor of Lowther", a name that is geographically connected to Cumberland County, England. This area is historic as the location of the northernmost battle during the Civil War, "The Battle of Sporting Hill", which happened in late June 1863, just prior to the Battle of Gettysburg. Camp Hill was officially incorporated as a borough on November 10, 1885. Market Street, which began as a trading route, was dubbed "The Great Road" as it served as access to the Wester Frontier for settlers. When the wagon trail evolved into the Pennsylvania Turnpike, Camp Hill became one of the Country's gateways to the west.

Camp Hill offers picturesque settings providing opportunities for artists to capture the feel of our community in a unique and memorable way. The Borough has a rich history and the residents are proud of their turn-of-the-century neighborhoods, Victorian style houses, and their endearing support of the arts, literature, and music. Camp Hill is a place where people come to live, work and play, enjoying the small neighborhood parks, boutique shopping, and fine dining.
